About Our Residency Program
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry is a comprehensive, high-volume training program designed to prepare residents for excellence in all aspects of the specialty. Residents gain extensive experience in dentoalveolar surgery, anesthesia, surgical management of medically complex patients, trauma, pathology, reconstruction, and outpatient and inpatient care. Through close mentorship from experienced faculty and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, the program emphasizes clinical proficiency, academic development, professionalism, and leadership. Our goal is to train well-rounded surgeons who are fully prepared for board certification and successful careers in private practice, academia, hospital-based surgery, or further subspecialty training.

Salary and Benefits
6-year residents have two different employers: Texas A&M College of Dentistry in the first three years and Baylor University Medical Center (a subsidiary of Baylor Scott & White Health) in the later three years.
Financial Aid
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides each resident with $1,000.00 scholarship each year to help subsidize the cost of medical school in years 1 – 3 and Graduate Course OMFS 650 in years 5 and 6.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery ResidencyHow many residents do you take each year?

The second Monday and Tuesday of December
Do you accept or sponsor training visas?
No, at this time, we do not accept candidates on any training visas.
Do residents participate in research?
Yes, all graduates must participate in a scholarly project and advanced research opportunities are also available for those who seek it out.
Internship and Externship Programs
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship
Texas A&M College of Dentistry offers Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) externships to qualified third- and fourth-year dental students, from U.S. CODA-accredited schools, interested in pursuing OMS residency positions. Our OMS externship offers dental students an opportunity to increase their knowledge in performing dentoalveolar surgery; observing major craniofacial and head and neck surgery procedures; making rounds with residents; attending hospital and departmental meetings, and standing emergency room call with OMS residents. The Department offers one, full-time, salaried internship position beginning July 1 – June 30.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Externship
Texas A&M College of Dentistry offers Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) externships to qualified third- and fourth-year dental students, from U.S. CODA-accredited schools, interested in pursuing OMS residency positions.
