About The Externship Program

Texas A&M College of Dentistry offers Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) externships to qualified third- and fourth-year dental students, from U.S. CODA-accredited schools, interested in pursuing OMS residency positions. Our OMS externship offers dental students an opportunity to increase their knowledge in performing dentoalveolar surgery; observing major craniofacial and head and neck surgery procedures; making rounds with residents; attending hospital and departmental meetings, and standing emergency room call with OMS residents.

What to expect as an OMS Extern

OMS externs will spend one week gaining experience in the full scope of OMS practice as well as the additional administrative aspects of an OMS resident. Externs generally acknowledge acquiring considerable knowledge about the practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at both the College and Baylor University Medical Center.

What to expect as an OMS Extern

We accept applications year-round though many externs choose to rotate during the summer months or other breaks while normal academic responsibilities are lightened or suspended. To maximize student experience and involvement, a maximum of two externs will be placed on a first-come, first-served basis after acceptance into the program.
