Welcome from the OMS program director

Andrew M. Read-Fuller, DDS, MD, FACS

Clinical Associate Professor and Director, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Residency Program

Premier Training Program

Standing out as one of the premier training programs in the region, our CODA-accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Residency Program has a century-long history as captivating as the city of Dallas itself. Since its inception as the State College of Dentistry in 1905, later becoming the Baylor College of Dentistry in 1918, and finally the Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in 1996, our program exemplifies excellence. Among the ranks of our graduates are world-renowned surgeons, academic department heads and institutional deans, organizational leaders at the local, regional, and national levels, leading private practice consultants spanning the country, and faculty and administrative leaders at every major United States Naval training program.

Core Values

At Texas A&M College of Dentistry, our mission is grounded in a set of core values that guide our commitment to advancing the future of oral health: excellence; professionalism; leadership; wellness; and respect. These principles inform our pursuit of preeminence in education, research, clinical practice, and community service and lay the foundation for our vision to continue our growth as a leader in dental education. By preparing highly skilled clinicians who provide patient‑centered, evidence‑based care while driving innovation through basic, translational, and clinical research, our mission emphasizes continuous improvement in the quality of services delivered to all stakeholders and a commitment to expanding access to competent care across the communities we serve.

Living and Working in Dallas

Despite the rigor of residency, Dallas offers a lifestyle that supports balance and well‑being. The cost of living remains relatively accessible for a major metropolitan area, allowing residents to find comfortable housing within a manageable commute to their training sites. While driving is the primary mode of transportation, the city’s robust highway system typically keeps travel predictable, even during peak hours. When time allows, Dallas provides ample opportunities for residents to decompress. The city’s food scene is expansive—ranging from local Texas barbecue to global cuisines—while cultural institutions, parks, and recreational areas offer accessible escapes from clinical life. Many neighborhoods, from Uptown to Lower Greenville to Deep Ellum, foster a sense of community that can be especially meaningful during the demanding years of surgical training.

Preparing for Excellence

Whether joining us for four or six years, our residents can expect the intensity of academic and clinical experiences at our program to prepare them for practice in any setting and under any circumstance. We look forward to getting to know you and, ultimately, welcoming you as a peer and colleague in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
