About Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship
The one-year, pre-residency program focuses on training new dental graduates in minor oral and maxillofacial surgery including dentoalveolar surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, dentoalveolar trauma, management of odontogenic infections, exposure to dental implants, and management of the medically compromised patient. In addition, the intern covers call with clinical responsibilities similar to the PGY-1 resident. The Department offers one, full-time, salaried internship position beginning July 1 – June 30.
Internship Objectives
- Increased exposure to interdisciplinary treatment planning.
- Enhanced working knowledge of and experience in, managing surgical complications.
- Increase in exposure to interdisciplinary treatment planning associated with dental implants.
- Increased working knowledge of advanced surgical techniques.
- Develop a high level of surgical competence in managing compromised patients.

Eligibility is limited to candidates who are U.S. Citizens and have earned a DDS or DMD degree from a U.S. Dental School accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. Selection Criteria and application
Admission to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship Program is competitive, with initial screening of candidates based upon previous academic performance, letters of recommendation, and professional experience. Interns will be chosen based upon the factors described above and the results of a personal interview with the program director.
